My happy place exists and it's San Pedro
Six days of golf carts, turquoise water, and the friendliest people I've ever met. Our snorkel guide Roberto treated every trip like it was his first time seeing the reef - pure wonder in his voice as he pointed out eagle rays and barracudas. The island pace is intoxicating. I didn't want to leave and I'm already planning my return.

Swam with a manatee!!!
We weren't even on a manatee tour. Our guide José spotted one while we were heading to Hol Chan and carefully positioned us to watch without disturbing her. She was curious and came close on her own. I ugly-cried happy tears. José has been guiding for 18 years and still got excited with us. You can't fake that enthusiasm. Magical doesn't begin to cover it.

Best girls' trip ever (and we've done a lot)
Brought my three best friends. We wanted beach, fun, zero stress. This delivered completely. The tour pickups were easy and on time. The sunset cruise was romantic even without romance - gorgeous light, rum punches, island music. We laughed until we couldn't breathe. Ana at our hotel made us feel like her personal guests. Already planning the sequel.

The fishing guide knew exactly where the fish were
I'm not an experienced fisherman but I wanted to try reef fishing. Captain Mike made it accessible and fun. He knew exactly where to go and was patient with my clumsy casting. Caught my first barracuda! He was genuinely excited for me - high fives all around. Then he showed us his favorite hidden beach for our snorkel stop. That local knowledge is everything.

Mexico Rocks snorkeling was the highlight of my year
I've snorkeled in Hawaii, Caribbean, Thailand. Mexico Rocks might be my new favorite. Less touristy than Hol Chan, coral gardens everywhere, fish so close you could touch them (but don't!). Our guide Carla knew every creature's habits, where they hide, what they eat. She turned snorkeling into an education and I loved every second.
