Two iconic Belize experiences in one day
We were picked up from our Belize City hotel right at 7:45 and the van was clean and air conditioned. The drive west was scenic and our guide kept us engaged the whole way with stories about the Maya. Crossing the Mopan River on the hand cranked ferry was such a unique moment and climbing El Castillo at Xunantunich left us speechless. The view from the top stretches all the way into Guatemala. After a hearty Belizean lunch we headed to Nohoch Cheen for the cave kayaking. Paddling through the underground caverns with our headlamps lighting up the formations was unlike anything I have ever done. Back in Belize City by 4:30.

Perfectly organized from start to finish
Our pickup at the Caribbean Sprinter water taxi terminal was right on time. We had just come over from Caye Caulker and the connection worked seamlessly. The drive to Xunantunich was about 90 minutes and our guide shared the political history of the Maya kings who ruled this region. The El Castillo climb is steep but the panoramic views of the jungle and the Mopan valley are worth every step. Lunch was traditional rice and beans with stew chicken at a local spot. The cave kayaking in the afternoon was the highlight for my husband. Floating through massive limestone caverns felt like a movie. Excellent value for a full day.

El Castillo views are unforgettable
I had never heard of Xunantunich before booking this tour and now I tell everyone they have to visit. The hand cranked ferry across the Mopan River sets the tone for an adventure right away. Climbing to the top of El Castillo our guide pointed out the carved friezes and explained how the structure was used for ceremonies. You can see clear into Guatemala from the summit. The cave kayaking in the afternoon was a complete change of pace. Drifting through the dark sacred caves with only our headlamps was peaceful and a little eerie in the best way. Pickup from the Municipal Airstrip was easy after our flight in from San Pedro.

Worth the early morning
The 7:30 pickup window felt early but we were back at our hotel before 5pm with memories to last a lifetime. Our guide handled everything from the ferry crossing to the kayak fitting. Xunantunich was much less crowded than I expected which made exploring the plazas feel personal. Climbing El Castillo with my teenage son was a moment I will not forget. The cave kayaking was a perfect afternoon activity after the morning of hiking. The water was cool and refreshing and our guides made sure everyone felt safe before entering the caves. Lunch was generous and authentic. Top notch tour from a professional team.

Best day of our Belize trip
We chose this tour because we wanted both Maya history and adventure in one day and it absolutely delivered. The drive from Belize City was comfortable and the air conditioning was a blessing. Xunantunich impressed me more than I expected. The El Castillo pyramid is enormous and the carvings on the eastern frieze are remarkable. After lunch the cave kayaking blew our minds. Paddling silently through the Nohoch Cheen cave system with bats flying overhead and ancient Maya artifacts visible in some chambers was magical. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and made everyone feel comfortable in the kayaks. Highly recommend for couples or families with older kids.

Smooth pickup and incredible adventure
Picked up at the San Pedro Belize Express terminal at exactly 7:50am. The water taxi from Caye Caulker landed at 7:30 so the timing was perfect. Our guide had cold water waiting in the van. The ride to Xunantunich went quickly because we were learning so much about Belizean culture along the way. The hand cranked ferry across the Mopan River was a fun moment. El Castillo is massive and climbing it was a workout but the 360 views are unbeatable. The afternoon cave kayaking through Nohoch Cheen was unique and adventurous. Lunch was tasty and there was plenty of food. Got back to Belize City by 4:30 feeling tired but thrilled.

A perfect mix of culture and adventure
I was nervous about doing two big activities in one day but the pacing of this tour was perfect. We started at Xunantunich in the cool of the morning which made the El Castillo climb manageable. The guide brought the ancient Maya world to life with stories about the rulers and the ball court. After a delicious lunch we drove to the Caves Branch area and got fitted for our kayaks. The cave system is stunning. Stalactites hang from the ceiling and you can see how the Maya used these caves for sacred ceremonies. Our guide was patient with first time kayakers. Pickup at the Ramada Princess was right on schedule.

Two unforgettable Belize experiences
My wife and I are in our 50s and were a little worried about the physical demands but the guides made everything accessible and safe. The El Castillo climb has resting spots along the way and the cave kayaking is much more relaxing than it sounds. We were picked up from the Best Western Biltmore right at 7:40 and the van was comfortable for the drive west. Crossing the Mopan River on the hand cranked ferry felt like stepping back in time. The ruins were spectacular and we had time to really explore. The afternoon kayak through the caves with headlamps lighting up the formations was the highlight of our entire Belize vacation.

Long day but very rewarding
This is a long full day so come prepared with comfortable shoes and clothes you do not mind getting wet. The Xunantunich morning was beautiful and our guide really knew his Maya history. Lunch was good though I wish we had a bit more time to relax before heading to the caves. The cave kayaking in the afternoon was the highlight. From the moment our guide picked us up at 7:45 from the Fort George Hotel everything ran like clockwork. I had Xunantunich and cave kayaking both on my Belize bucket list and this tour combined them into one efficient day. Pickup from the Municipal Airstrip was right on time after our quick flight in. Family friendly and fun
We did this tour with our two teenagers and everyone had an amazing time. The 7:30 pickup at the Ramada Princess was prompt and the van was comfortable for the drive west. Great tour with a couple of small notes
Overall this was a fantastic day with two completely different but equally memorable experiences. The Xunantunich portion was outstanding. Our guide was a true expert on Maya history and the El Castillo climb gave us views I will remember forever. The hand cranked Mopan ferry was a fun bonus. Lunch was tasty. The cave kayaking was thrilling though I wish we had a slightly longer time inside the caves. Our guide was patient with first timers and made sure everyone was comfortable.
