ATM Cave (Actun Tunichil Muknal) was a ceremonial place of the Mayan people living in Belize. The cave used during the Classic period around AD 250-909. The Mayan believed that gods, who provided rain and agricultural fertility, resided in this underworld. The ATM Cave also offers a prize historical perspective of the Mayans. In addition, you will see many of the artifacts are exactly as they were when the cave was first explored by archaeologists. Visitors also enjoy beautiful stalagmites, stalactites, and the flowstones, Mayan artifacts, human skeleton & skulls that have been there for over 1000 years.
The ATM Tour starts at 7:30 A.M from San Ignacio Cayo Belize. A drive for 1 hour through a small village, hardwood farming, and Citrus Orchards, There is a 45 min. hike through pristine jungles & River crossings. Finally, swim into the cave. We spend about 3-3 ½ hour into the cave, The ATM Cave tour gets back at 4:00 p.m
